Memory walkers tell tales of the old school

On Saturday the 20th of October, the Erskineville Public School P&C invited all ex-students
back to school to see how things have changes and revisit their time here.

The P & C hosted a barbeque to loosen tied tongues and keep the memories flowing. Members of the school community (students and parents) recorded the stories as part of our ongoing history project. It was an inspiring and refreshing experience all round.

To keep the spirit of Erko alive we are inviting all you old boys and girls to blog about your
thoughts of the memory walk or to capture some more of those yarns and
stories. If you have other memorabilia related to the school you would like to share, please contact us, we are developing an archive of materials that will be available for future generations. Over to you….

Would love to read your thoughts on the memory walk. In the meantime, we’ll be uploading photos etc of the day - so come back soon.

Hello, my name is Jennifer and my interest in the school goes back at least 100 years when my grandmother, Edith Flora Irene Fawcett was born at Erskineville in 1897. Family lived at 64 Erskineville Road and I assume would have gone to Erskineville P.S. I would be interested to find out how long the school has been there - perhaps there has been a centenary or sesqui-centenary? I was involved in the centenary for Glenbrook Public School quite a few years ago and did much of the research for that celebration. I plan to try and access admission registers for the school (if they exist) (if they are at the archives) but thought I’d contact you first in case they have already been transcribed by someone at the school. I did that for Glenbrook and it was a labour of Hercules! I will also send this through the “contact us” section of your website as it appears that the history forum is not very active. Regards, Jennifer Bell
